Last month, an outdoor enthusiast who goes by Cowboy Rob and two of his friends had the idea to do a Halloween group hike. Then, they thought: What if we hiked Half Dome with the cables down in inflatable dino costumes? So, they did.
Half Dome is a popular but challenging hike in Yosemite National Park that often requires a permit, since there is steep section with cables that becomes congested when too many people try to ascend at once. But the cables aren’t always up, allowing for some avid hikers to complete the trek at will—even in costumes, if they really want to.
On October 19, Cowboy Rob and his two friends donned their inflatable dino costumes and set out with a group they’d recruited to join their Halloween hike up Half Dome. The dinos didn’t wear their suits the whole time, but they certainly wore them when it mattered most.
“This day was nothing but smiles and laughs,” Cowboy Rob wrote in his Instagram video sharing the experience. “The cables were down, it was extremely windy, but we made it up. And spent 3 hours running around on top of Halfdome in our costumes. The best part of the day was all of the smiles we brought to the faces of others.”
